Example.. balance test. When you start the engine all the data from the eprom is loaded to the microprocessor. In a balance test the consult sends a new register value to the microprocessor to keep the ecu from sending a signal to the PTU for the given cylinder under test. If the original register value in the eprom for a given cylinder to operate properly was corrupted or contained the same value as that sent by the consult during balance testing to turn off that cylinder the cylinder would not have ignition.
